Typography in Print Design
This is one of my favorite subjects to study in graphic design…typography!
I’m just beginning a Menu/Logo Design project for a client so this is a great time to discuss this subject. I can also post the design development of this project so you can see how it evolves.
I just uploaded to my gallery the draft of the menu with various font features for beginning approval as well as one logo design.

The FOUR Basic Principles of TYPE!
- Contrast
- Repetition
- Alignment
- Proximity
LESSON 1: Contrast…if you are going to have more than one type of font on a page make sure they are REALLY Different!
This is what makes a printed page Aesthetically pleasing!
In the menu you can see the headings are completely different “type” than the menu selections. The two need to stand out so that the eye can easily see the different food categories.

Typography: Tips and Hints
This is a discussion that I started previously at my forum…. but I decided to continue it here. I’m just stretched too thin right now…Need to keep everything in one place :O)
